Cases for Digital Forensics

There has been numoruous unsolved as well as solved cases and in this page, there will be many cases.

Murder of Professor Matthew Wiser

Investigators tracked a stolen Nintendo Switch, connected to a Nintendo server by the suspect weeks after the murder, to a specific IP address. that was how, with a google tracker, they caught the real killer(Derric Scott, Tiquez Timmons and Curtis Anthony Womack) in 2020.

The BTK Killer

The BTK(bind torture kill) killer was an interesting criminal, a master at hiding in plain sight, and was a serial killer, that killed 10 people seperately. he taunted many poliece, but digital analysists tracked and found the URL and where it was sent. The time perfectly matched up, confirming the end of a trial.

Dante Holmes Murder Case (2023)

Police sent a geofence request to find mobile devices near a crime scene. A suspect was identified using an iCloud photo of a hurt leg uploaded right after the murder, with lots of cell phone records showing his phone traveling with the victim's phone.

Unsolved Cases in Digital Forensics

Digital forensics has become an essential field in solving crimes, but not every case has a clear resolution. Several high-profile investigations remain unsolved, demonstrating the complexities involved in this discipline.

One unresolved case is the 2017 Equifax data breach, where attackers accessed sensitive information of millions of individuals. While the breach was identified, the identities of the attackers and their motivations have eluded investigators, highlighting challenges in tracing digital footprints. These cases underline the limitations and complexities of digital evidence, showcasing that even advanced technology can sometimes fail to provide clear answers

Also, the case of the "Ashley Madison" data breach in 2015 revealed user information from the 'infidelity' website. While some of the fallout was predictable, the actual perpetrators were never officially identified, raising security questions that remain unresolved. The fusion of personal data with criminal intent shows a troubling trend in digital forensics.

These unresolved cases in digital forensics not only challenge the techniques available to investigators but also remind us of the importance of privacy and security in the digital age. As technology continues to evolve, so too will the methods required to solve these perplexing cases.

There are hundreds of cases of unexplaned ,resolved, all thanks to digital foresics. Still, many stll lie, undetected and unexplained. CSI has evolved, and so has crimes. Remember, to keep yourself safe. Imagine yourself, being one of those people! There are hundreds of cases that I haven't mentioned such as the kidnapping of Alicia Kozakiewicz, the decomposed body and the gold state serial killer.
